Coccolithophores Take Over Bamfield!

Bamfield is experiencing a bloom of coccolithophore! They are super small photosynthesizers (2 microns max size). They are armoured: they have "sculpted" calcium carbonate (chalky) shell plates on the outside. Google Emiliana huxleyii to see their nanoscopic beauty.
