Bamfield Huu-ay-aht
Community Forest Society
Established in 1999, the Bamfield Huu-ay-aht Community forest was one of the first Community Forest pilot projects. The forest is primarily old-growth, and lies adjacent to upper Anacla, surrounds the east side of Bamfield, and has a small block on the west side of Bamfield. Our managing board strives for equal representation from Bamfield and Huu-ay-aht citizens. Our vision is to facilitate silviculture, recreation, research, training, and ecotourism. We aim to harvest timber using ecosystem-based management practices, focusing on single stem harvest. Proceeds from the timber harvests are used for the construction of recreational trails, and are given in grants for local projects that benefit the communities of Anacla and Bamfield environmentally, culturally, or economically.
